DON’T BRUSH IT OFF. WHY IT PAYS OFF TO REPAINT.

September 28, 2017    Homeowner Tips, Lifestyle

Our friends at ADVANCED PAINTING & WOOD REPAIR have been painting beautiful interiors and exteriors for individual homeowners, homeowners associations, condominiums and home builders in Southern California for over 40 years. As our preferred painters and experts in their industry, we asked for their best tips.

PAINTING PAYS

Whether it’s the inside or outside of a home, few other trades can offer such a big bang for your buck. When someone hires us to paint their home, they’re going to get enhanced beautification recognizable from the curb. And when you walk into a home, paint gives you that “wow” factor without that “whoah!” remodel price tag.

REPAINTING OFFERS REASSURANCE

Even if you stay with the same color when you repaint, it’s important to repaint the exterior for beautification and protection. Plus, we add less-visible protection to your property’s substrates (wood, stucco, and metal) that will help maintain the condition and integrity of their exterior for years to come.

SOCAL HEAT CAN HARM YOUR BUILDING

That incredible Southern California sunshine requires sunscreen for our bodies, but did you know those harsh UV rays also affect your home's exterior? And, if you live near the coast then you’ll have moisture to deal with as well. A quality paint job with premium paint is truly your first line of defense in protecting your home from nature’s elements.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO PAINT THE EXTERIOR?

Here in sunny SoCal we have the good fortune of being able to paint year-round. If you want to ensure the least disruption in your project due to weather-related factors, paint between “Spring Cleaning” and “Back to School” months. The rest of the year is also fine but we wouldn’t want to begin your project in the middle of winter or spring storm systems. Advanced Painting can always work around the weather if clients are flexible with the forecast.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU REPAINT?

There are many factors that determine how often you need to repaint, such as: the age/condition of the home’s surfaces, the quality of paint previously used, and the home’s exposure to the elements (direct southern exposures are particularly hard on your home’s exterior). As a general rule of thumb, wood siding and trims should be repainted about every five years, while stucco should be re-painted every five to eight years.

Some surfaces have different levels of maintenance. High maintenance materials like wrought iron or metal surfaces may need to be re-painted every year or two to keep it fully encapsulated and ward-off rust. Lower maintenance materials requiring a little less attention are new types of building materials like cement fiberboard, which may only need to be painted every ten to fifteen years.
