OH, BUNNY! HOW TO PUT TOGETHER A COMMUNITY EGG HUNT

April 4, 2017    Homeowner Tips

We’re sharing last-minute ideas to make it entertaining and easy.

Kids love the hunt for those pastel colored eggs.  Here are some easy ideas for your community or your group of friends to host a wonderful weekend event.

CHOOSE A 2-HOUR WINDOW ON A WEEKEND

It could be any weekend in April. Although we live in sunny Southern California, you may want to have a back-up plan for a rainy day. In that case, use your community club.

PICK AN OPEN SPACE

Gone are the days of hiding the eggs, so an easy hunt should take place on a large lawn in your community.  Set the boundaries with cones or use baskets!

EGGSCELLENT

Little kids find plastic eggs more fun because you can hide a piece of candy inside, or a quarter, or a small toy. If you want to do a hunt for grown-ups, put in some gift certificates! If you’d like, have a basket in the main lobby so guests can return the plastic eggs for next year. Remember, you should expect each kid to grab 7-10 eggs per hunt.

BUNNIES OF ALL AGES

It’s best not to mix toddlers with the big kids. We suggest you have the hunt in 5-minute heats, with youngest kids starting first.

GET DONATIONS OR ASK THE BOARD

You can ask the HOA Board if they have any funds for your event. If that’s not an option, simply create a sign-up sheet or ask your board to send out an email to get volunteers to help. If possible, get an RSVP going so you can plan accordingly.

GET PEOPLE TO POTLUCK

Create a sign-up sheet to get volunteers to help with set-up, break-down, and anyone who wants to donate the treats that go into the eggs. If you want to amp it up, have people bring easy desserts like cookies or cupcakes. If possible, get an RSVP going so you can plan accordingly.

HAVE A SPRING STYLE CONTEST

You can have a cupcake decorating contest, or a cookie contest. But a fun contest is to have a contest where you give a gift certificate to the person who is the best dressed for spring. It could be Easter attire, pastel seersuckers suits, let people be creative!

Hop to it and go get your hunt started!
